Delhi Metro to Start at 4 AM on August 15 for Independence Day Celebrations

NEW DELHI — To facilitate smooth travel for special guests, invitees, and the general public attending the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will begin train services from 4:00 AM on Saturday, August 15.

Trains will begin operations from all terminal stations across the DMRC network at a 30-minute frequency on all lines until regular revenue services kick in at 6:00 AM, after which normal timetable schedules will apply.

1.3 Lakh Special Pre-Vended QR Tickets Issued

To handle the crowd of attendees and official guests, DMRC has partnered with the Ministry of Defence to issue special travel passes.

  • Pre-Vended Tickets: DMRC has supplied 1,30,000 special QR tickets directly to the Ministry of Defence.
  • On-Station Ticket Provision: Invitees holding valid physical admit cards issued by the Ministry can collect special QR tickets at designated metro stations.
  • Cost Reimbursement: The Ministry of Defence will reimburse DMRC for all travel undertaken using these special tickets.

Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC, stated that these proactive measures aim to guarantee hassle-free travel for all attendees.

Key Stations for Red Fort Access

Commuters and attendees traveling to the Independence Day venue are advised to use the three nearest metro stations for the shortest walking distance to the Red Fort:

  • Lal Quila Metro Station (Violet Line)
  • Jama Masjid Metro Station (Violet Line)
  • Delhi Gate Metro Station (Violet Line)

DMRC has urged the general public to make use of early morning services to avoid last-minute crowd delays around security checkpoints near the venue.
