NEW DELHI — The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) intensified a massive demolition and enforcement drive across all 12 zones of the national capital on Thursday, targeting dangerous buildings, unauthorized construction, and severe building norm violations.
The aggressive crackdown comes days after the September 6 collapse of a five-storey paying guest (PG) accommodation in Southwest Delhi's Satya Niketan, which claimed seven lives and injured at least five others.

Key Action Taken by MCD
- Demolition of Adjacent Structure: On Thursday, MCD teams resumed the calibrated, controlled demolition of the building immediately adjoining the collapsed site in Satya Niketan after declaring it structurally unsafe.
- Mass Survey of PG Accommodations: Between September 7 and 9, civic officials surveyed 1,252 paying guest buildings across Delhi to verify structural safety and regulatory compliance.
- Capital-Wide Enforcement: Teams carried out demolition and sealing drives in multiple neighborhoods, including Laxmi Nagar, Jagatpuri, Pandav Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Karol Bagh, Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Nagar, Chandni Chowk, and Tilak Nagar.
