Suraj Tiwari

HARDOI (UTTAR PRADESH) — An unusual petition has drawn nationwide attention across social media when a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district has filed a formal complaint on the state government's complaint registration portal against Lord Indra, the mythological god of rain and thunderstorms. He is urging the local administration to intervene and stop continuos rainfall.

The petition was submitted through the Uttar Pradesh government's Jansunwai portal by Suraj Tiwari, a resident of Nevada Paras village in the Mallawan administrative block.

Civic Paralysis and Waterlogging

According to the complaint, continuous, erratic rainfall over recent hours have brought normal life to a complete stop across several rural and semi-urban pockets of Hardoi.

  • Flooded Thoroughfares: Persistent rainfall without prior warning has led to acute waterlogging in low-lying localities, streets, and residential colonies, leaving residents confined indoors and disrupting daily commercial activity.
  • Agricultural Anxiety: Local farmers have raised serious concerns over potential waterlogging in their farms, fearing damage to standing seasonal crops.

Holding Lord Indra directly responsible for creating the disruptive weather pattern, Tiwari approached the district authorities seeking immediate stoppage of the rain.

'Indra Dev's Mobile Number Unknown'

The petition attracted digital attention due to a peculiar note Tiwari appended regarding the details of reaching the deity.

Tiwari noted that because he does not have Lord Indra’s personal mobile phone number, direct communication remained impossible on his part. He subsequently requested the Hardoi District Magistrate to treat the issue with administrative powers and deploy official "divine communication channels" (divya sampark) to issue clear directions to the weather deity to cease the unseasonal deluge.

Social Media Reaction and Satirical Undertone

Images of the complaint letter quickly circulated across platforms like X and WhatsApp, prompting widespread commentary. While several internet users reacted with light-hearted humour at the sheer absurdity of the complaint, observers noted that the move functioned as a sharp, satirical critique of chronic drainage failures, municipal unpreparedness, and citizen frustration during severe monsoon spells.

District authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the disposition of the portal entry, which remains one of the most unconventional grievances logged on the state's administrative tracking system.
