Nexusnewsalert | New Delhi, 19 May 2026 — In a fresh escalation, Congress has strongly criticised the Centre after another petrol diesel price hike. Fuel prices were increased by around 90 paise per litre, marking the second hike in less than a week.

This petrol diesel price hike comes after a nearly four-year freeze ended. Global crude oil prices have surged due to the ongoing Iran conflict and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Congress took to X (formerly Twitter) and targeted PM Narendra Modi directly. The party called him the "Inflation Man" and said, “The ‘Inflation Man’ Modi’s whip has lashed out at the public again.” They further claimed that prices have increased by ₹4 in the last 4 days.

Why Fuel Prices Are Rising?
- Global crude oil prices jumped over 50% due to West Asia tensions
- State-run oil companies ended the long price freeze

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that India has successfully managed energy supplies despite global conflicts. However, the opposition continues to accuse the government of burdening common people with repeated petrol diesel price hike.
