GURUGRAM — Gurugram Police on Monday arrested a 52-year-old resident of the ultra-luxury DLF Camellias high-rises in Sector 42 for allegedly assaulting her 22-year-old domestic help and holding her in wrongful confinement.
The arrest came after a 90-second video—covertly recorded through a window by a neighbor—went viral on social media, sparking widespread public outrage. Taking suo motu cognizance of the video, the Sushant Lok police station registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 127(2) (wrongful confinement).

The accused has been identified as Ruchira Sachdeva, a housewife whose husband owns a chain of liquor outlets.
Incident Captured on Camera
In the video shared widely online, Sachdeva is seen repeatedly assaulting the victim—a 22-year-old national from Nepal—inside a kitchen. The footage shows the employer pulling her hair, choking her, grabbing her face, and shoving her.
The person recording the video can be heard pleading in Hindi for help, alleging that the domestic worker was routinely mistreated, confined, and denied access to a telephone. Public Relations Officer of Gurugram Police, Sandeep Turan, confirmed that the incident stemmed from a work-related dispute on the night of July 24, 2026.
Following the assault, the victim left for Nepal on July 27. When police initially visited the residence, Sachdeva's family presented a signed document from the victim requesting no legal action. However, investigators suspect the victim may have been coerced due to the employer’s influence and are making efforts to contact her directly to record her official statement.

Social Media Outrage and Action
The viral clip gained significant traction after social activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj tagged the Gurugram Police, Haryana Police, and the Chief Minister’s Office online, demanding prompt action against the employer.
Following preliminary questioning at the station, police confirmed Sachdeva's arrest, citing strong visual evidence matching her identity from the footage.
