Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the 'Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan' on August 2, marking the beginning of a nationwide 100-week campaign aimed at raising awareness against drug abuse. The initiative will be led by MY Bharat youth and is expected to involve more than one crore young people across 10,000 locations in its opening event.
Announcing the campaign on Wednesday, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya said the initiative will unite young people in a collective mission to build a drug-free India. He said the campaign is a response to Prime Minister Modi's call for greater public participation in tackling substance abuse.

According to the minister, participants across the country will take a national pledge against drug abuse on August 2 and dedicate themselves as Nasha Mukta Yuva Volunteers. The campaign will involve MY Bharat volunteers, the National Service Scheme (NSS), youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, NGOs, industrial associations, and more than 125 spiritual organisations.
Unlike a one-day awareness drive, the campaign will continue for 100 weeks. Every Sunday, activities such as walkathons, sports events, meditation sessions, street plays, cultural programmes, art competitions, and community engagement initiatives will be organised to encourage young people to stay away from substance abuse.
Mandaviya expressed concern over the growing drug menace in the country and cited data from the Narcotics Control Bureau's 2025 report. He said authorities seized around 1.34 lakh kilograms of narcotic drugs during the year, with an estimated market value of nearly ₹1,980 crore. He also said a record 42,282 acres of illegal opium cultivation were destroyed in 2025, compared with 10,000 acres in 2020.

Calling the figures "shocking," the minister urged young people to actively participate in the campaign and contribute to building a drug-free society.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said volunteers and organisations making significant contributions to the campaign will be recognised during the 50th, 75th, and 100th week milestones. The government said the sustained public participation initiative is intended to strengthen the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by promoting a drug-free and healthy youth population.
